China-Tianjin "City of Design" Core Area Public Sculpture International Competition

I. Activity background

As one of the important carriers in the field of public art design, urban sculpture is the most important carrier of the most direct and objective display of urban culture, and the best means to spread urban culture. It witnesses the development of the city in a unique way, tells the cultural track and spiritual outlook of the city, and shows the culture and self-confidence of the city. Therefore, as the core area of Tianjin "City of Design", as the development centre of urban creativity and innovation, in order to better explore the industrial, public, cultural and service nature of design, held this [China - Tianjin "City of Design" Core Area International Public Sculpture Competition]. In order to better explore the industrial, public, cultural and service nature of design, we will initiate this [China - Tianjin "City of Design" Core Area  Public Sculpture International Competition].

The competition will gather the wisdom of "China Design" with a more international vision and standards, and fully demonstrate the professionalism and cutting-edge nature of Tianjin's contemporary public art design in China through the collection of more diverse urban sculpture works, and fully demonstrate the power of "Tianjin Design" in enabling high-quality economic development of the city, highlighting the boosting role of high-quality life of citizens and efficient urban governance. In order to better implement the major national strategies, enhance cultural self-confidence and self-improvement, promote the development of design and public art with Chinese characteristics, give full play to the innovation base function of "digital new infrastructure" in the core area of Tianjin's "City of Design", and make new contributions to serving the development goal of Tianjin's modern socialist metropolis.

II. Theme and content of the competition

(一) Theme of the contest

The theme of the competition is "Times of Tianjin".

(二) Subject matter

There are four sub-themes: "City of Design ", " City of Technology ", " City of Sports " and " City of Eco "

(1)" City of Design ":

The theme of " City of Design " is located in the core area of the City of Design in the southeast of the central city of Tianjin, adjacent to the Haihe River, at the junction of Dongli, Jinnan, Hedong and Hexi districts, with a total area of 14.5 square kilometres. The theme of " City of Design " is focusedon the positioning of "Core Area of Design City - New Highland of Digital Design", adhering to the planning leadership, and striving to build the ity of Design as the pioneer area of Tianjin's future city, playing the role of gathering innovative resources, releasing the leading value benchmark, and driving the transformation of Tianjin's development momentum. Embodying the cultural heritage of Tianjin's design industry.

The theme of "City of Science and Technology" is located in the northwest side of "City of Design" Core Area Liulin Park's science showground area, with nature education and ecological science as its main functions. Focusing on urban space digital links, urban services invisible wisdom, design industry whole chain support, urban ecology low carbon controllable, urban operation intelligent master. The integration of smart technology into the natural ecology shows the scientific and technological innovation of Tianjin in the new era.

(3)"City of Sport":

The theme of " City of Sport " is located in the sports stage area on the south-west side of  "City of Design" Core Area Liulin Park, with recreation, fitness and sports as its main functions. In the context of advocating national fitness and making the whole society energetic and upwardly mobile, the theme focuses on creating an all-age, life-oriented and entertaining sports life scenario and creating a healthy lifestyle.

(4)"City of Eco":

Adhere to the concept of "urban life body and organism", effectively exert the ecological value of green water and green mountains, the aesthetic value of poetic dwelling, the humanistic value of people-oriented, the economic value of green and low-carbon, and the social value of harmonious sharing, and strive to create a livable and beautiful living environment for the public,

The theme of "City of Eco" is located in the heart of ecology on the east side of "City of Design" Core Area Liulin Park, with dense forest experience, ecological sponge streams, and moonflower ornamental as the main functions, to create the heart of urban ecology forest oxygen bar, and to build an urban ecological landscape with harmonious communication between man and nature.

IV. Request for works

(i) Timing of the call

Beginning and Ending Time: Beijing time 28 July 2023 to 26 August 2023(Subject to the time the email was sent)

(ii)collection method

This event is open to the public through a combination of extensive solicitation and special invitation.

(iii) Scope of the call

1、Professionals and enthusiasts at home and abroad who have the ability to create sculpture can participate individually or collectively, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, age and gender.

2. Types of works: public sculpture, installation art works;

(iv) Number of solicitations:

20 works are collected this time.

(v) Request for contributions

1. Submissions must be original by the artist. The works should have profound connotation, beautiful modelling, elegant quality, strong implementation, and fully embody the academic principles of international, contemporary and innovative academic principles;

2. The submitted works should highlight the theme concepts of City of Design, City of Science and Technology, City of Sports and City of Eco, and have the characteristics of publicity and innovation.

3, the specifications of the work requirements: design scale of 3-5 meters or so, the material for the outdoor permanent material, the size of the later production can be adjusted according to the relevant environment moderately.

4. Proposal submission request: Online registration is available (if the author has network difficulties, please contact the organizing committee).Applicants need to fill in the application form (including author information, introduction, creative description, etc.) and sign for confirmation. Please send the electronic version of the registration form, photos of exhibition works scheme (from multiple angles), personal photos and scanned copies of ID card (front and back) to the following email: tjggds2023@163.com before 24:00(12:00A.M) August 26th, 2023.If multiple works are sent, the picture of the work should correspond to the description of the work clearly and clearly. Assembling work needs clear installation drawings. The electronic resolution of all images should be above 300DPI. The submitted design works shall be in JPG format. The submitted design works shall not contain the name of the author, the name of the unit and other similar information to ensure the openness, fairness and justice of the work evaluation. Otherwise, the work shall be deemed invalid. The title of the submission document shall be named according to the name of the author, the title of the work, the specification, and the format of the material (for example, Miron's "Discus Thrower" is 152cm high and bronze. JPG).Each artist can submit one or more projects, each project should be a separate folder, late submission of materials will not be accepted. It is recommended to compress and pack the work scheme and send it to the submission email, for example: Miron "Discus Thrower ".rar.

5. Finalist model requirements:

According to the registration materials, the organizing committee will organize relevant experts to conduct preliminary evaluation and re-evaluation of the submitted works, the result will be announced at a later date. The organizing committee will notify the finalists by email to clarify the responsibilities, rights and obligations of both parties. The selected author shall, after the formal reply, send the small draft of the work (which should reflect the actual material or imitation material after the work is completed, the size of the model shall be about 50cm, and the maximum side length shall not exceed 100cm) to the place designated by the organizing committee according to the time required by the organizing committee.

6. Rewards for works:

Outstanding Work Award: RMB 50,000 per piece

(1) Selected sculptors, institutions and organizations will receive a certificate of excellence issued bythe organizing committee of the event;

(2) The graphic design costs of the submitted works, the production costs and transportation costs of the selected works are all borne by the contributors or exhibitors themselves.

V. Sculpture work enlarged production

1. The organizing committee of the competition fully respects the sculpture works of the contributors (natural persons/units/design teams) and their Copyrights.  After submission, contributors shall be deemed to accept the rules and collection requirements of this activity by default, agree that the organizing committee and the organizer have the right to promote and use the sculpture works, and agree that the organizing committee and the organizer have the right to exhibit and enlarge the shortlisted sculpture works.

2. landing works in principle by the organizing committee, the organizers designated by the professional processing plant (merit principle) is responsible for processing, the specific processing size and material by the organizing committee in accordance with the overall situation to decide. The author of the figurative realistic sculpture must personally put the manuscript (compensation costs are negotiable). At the same time, the organizing committee of the competition will organize an exhibition supervisory group to coordinate and supervise the whole production of the works.

VI. Intellectual property protection and other clarifications.

(i) The submitted works shall not infringe the patent right, copyright, trademark right, reputation right or any other legitimate rights and interests of other third parties, otherwise the author shall bear the legal disputes or responsibilities and be disqualified from the exhibition.

(ii) The submitted works are prohibited from using AI to create, and once verified, the organizer and the Organizing committee will have the right to cancel the qualification of the works.

(c) The organizing committee and the organizers of this event have the final right of interpretation.
